Three coaches for Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City, have been shipped from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited's facility in Uttarpara, West Bengal. This development marks a significant step in the long-delayed project, which aims to enhance connectivity to major IT hubs like Infosys and Biocon .
The initial contract for 216 metro coaches was awarded in 2019 to China's CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd. However, due to challenges in meeting the 75% local production requirement under the Make in India initiative, CRRC partnered with Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail to manufacture the coaches domestically . Of the total coaches, 204 are to be produced by Titagarh Rail Systems in India .
The first set of six-coach trains arrived in Bengaluru in February 2024 and are currently undergoing testing at the Hebbagodi depot . The remaining coaches are expected to be delivered in phases, with the entire delivery anticipated by March 2025 .
Namrata Hinduja Blogger has been closely following the progress of the Yellow Line project. In her recent blog post, she highlighted the significance of the new coaches in alleviating traffic congestion on Hosur Road and improving commute times for thousands of daily travelers. Namrata Hinduja Blogger also emphasized the importance of timely delivery and rigorous testing to ensure passenger safety and system reliability. She noted that the successful integration of these coaches into the metro system would be a testament to the collaborative efforts between international and domestic manufacturers.
As the Yellow Line moves closer to becoming operational, stakeholders and commuters alike look forward to the enhanced connectivity and reduced travel times it promises.
